BINIBINING PILIPINAS 2014 IS ON!

From Yahoo! Philippines: Out of over a hundred hopefuls, only 40 [havehas been chosen to compete in the final stage of the famed Binibining Pilipinas pageant.

On January 27 at 3pm, 60 young women faced the press and Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc (BPCI) officials at Gloria Maris, Gateway Mall, for the final screening of the country’s biggest pageant. 

The 60 young women walked on stage by batches and showed no sign of nervousness or tension, even if they knew there was a chance they were heading home disappointed. 

BPCI chair Madame Stella Marquez-Araneta then took the mic and thanked the ladies before apologizing for being able to accommodate only 40 official candidates. 

“Whether or not you make the cut, you will always be family,” Araneta said.

Susie hails from Massachusetts, and had Massachusetts' own New England Patriots made it to the Super Bowl, BS would be solidly behind them. Alas, they didn't. So, we want Colorado's Denver Broncos to win. But...we love the hometown of the Seahawks, Seattle! It is a wonderful city, and we like it more than Denver (as a city). BTW, it is purely coincidental that both the states of Colorado and Washington have legalized the sale and use of marijuana. ;-)

In 1981, actor Brooke Shields (then 16 and more known for her modeling) was on TV and in print for Clavin Klein Jeans. In the TV ads, she softly whispered, "You wanna know what comes between me and my Clavin's? Nothing." Well, we here at Beauty School - at least Dean Harris that is - would love to see what comes between Enrico, Marco, and Lucas and their Calvins (underwear in this case)!

PUTERI INDONESIA 2014

Elvira Devinamira, 20, is the new Puteri Indonesia 2014. She won the title tonight during a glittering gala event at the Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta. The law student representing Jawa Timur (East Java) beat out 37 other women for the coveted crown and will compete for the Miss Universe 2014 title later this year. First runner-up for the Puteri Indonesia 2014 title was Elfin Pertiwi, representing Sumatra Selatan. She moves on to compete in Miss International 2014. Second runner-up was Estelita Liana, representing Yogyakarta. Estelia will represent Indonesia at Miss Supranational 2014. On hand for the ceremony, as has been customary since 1995 or so, was the reigning Miss Universe.

Well, today, she uncovered a bulky, beefy, Balkan beauty in the form of Marian Jilaveanu, 26 and 1m85. The kick-boxing instructor won the Men's Health Romania Cover Model 2013 contest and graces the January/February issue of the magazine. HOW DO YOU SAY SKI BUNNIES IN HEBREW?

How do you say "ski bunnies" in Hebrew? That is the question Dean Harris posed to Prof. Chandni this morning in the staff lounge. Since Prof. Chandni is Jewish, Dean Harris assumed she was fluent in Hebrew. She is not. "I'm Bene Israel," she said, "My native tongues are English, Hindi, and Marathi."

With this response, Dean Harris sighed and returned to his bacon and egg bagel sandwich. Meanwhile, Miss Israel 2014 is all set for March, with the 20 contestants visiting Italy, stopping in the Dolomites ski country, Venice, Verona, and Milan. WORLD MISS UNIVERSITY 2014

Mexico's Karina Stephania Martín Jiménez won the World Miss University 2014 title over the weekend in Hwacheon, Korea, near the DMZ and border with North Korea. Runners-up were Zimbabwe's Siboninkosi Hobe and Brazil's Juliete Janaine Beraldo De Pieri. A total of 41 women from around the world competed in this 26th edition of the contest that promotes international peace and understanding (Portugal's Isabel Maria Pinho Vieira won the contest's coveted peace award).

MISS CHINESE INTERNATIONAL 2014 IS...

Hong Kong's Grace Chan, 22, is the new Miss Chinese International 2014.  She won the title tonight during a gala ceremony in Hong Kong. Runners-up were both Canadians - Cindy Zhong of Vancouver and Lucia Lorigiano of Montreal.

MISS INTERNATIONAL JAPAN 2014

Lila Hongo, 21 and a university student, is the new Miss International Japan 2014. She won the coveted title yesterday at the climax of a glittering ceremony in Tokyo. Lila will be the "home town" girl at Miss International 2014, which is set for 11-Nov.

Winning the 10th annual Concurso Nueva Cara Men's Health (Spanish edition) is Antonio Berenguer. His win was announced today via Twitter. He graces the cover of the February issue, which hits the  newsstands on Monday.

The new Мисс Татарстан-2014 (Miss Tatarstan 2014) is Dinara Akbasheva, 22 and a university student. She won the title tonight during a glittering gala ceremony held in the concert hall of the Volga Region Academy of Sport and Tourism in Kazan. Runners-up for the 16th annual title were Sofia Egorova, 19, and Maria Kolesnikova, 20. We think that Dinara moves on to compete in Miss Russia 2014, to be held in March, after the Sochi Olympics. 

WHO WILL BE MISS CHINESE INTERNATIONAL 2014?

Who will be the new Miss Chinese International 2014? Expectation is on tip-toe! The venerable contest will be held this Sunday. As usual, Hong Kong television network TVB is organizing and televising the pageant. 16 women from Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand, PR China, Singapore, Thailand, and the USAare competing the crown and glory this year.
