Stunning, radiant  Camilla Estico, 23, is "Miss Seychelles...Another World 2014" and will represent her Indian Ocean island nation at Miss World 2014. She won the title tonight during a glittering gala ceremony at the new Savoy Resort and Spa at Beau Vallon. Camilla, who has lived in the USA for nine years and only recently returned to the Seychelles, garnered the Miss Talent and Miss Photogenic awards, too. One year ago today. 31-mayıs-2013. Gezi Park. Istanbul. Turkey. Today marks the one-year anniversary of the day the social conscience of Turkey awoke against its corrupt,  anti-democratic, anti social media, anti free press, completely out-of-touch, and even incompetent President. Keep fighting the good fight, all you Çapulcu out there - in Turkey and all other parts of the Universe where there is injustice.

Both Miss Universe Turkey 2012 Çağıl Özge Özkul and Miss Universe Turkey 2014 Dilan Çiçek Deniz commemorated #31mayıs2013 on their Instagram accounts. And of course, our political science students will recall that Çağıl went from crowning her successor to protesting her government within the span of 24 hours! She will forever be our most beloved "Miss Çapulcu."

MISS COSTA RICA 2014

Miss Costa Rica 2014 is Karina Ramos, 20. She won the title tonight during the gala 40th anniversary pageant, held at Teletica's Marco Picado Studio in San Jose. She will be the Central American nation's delegate to Miss Universe 2014 later this year. Runners-up for the Miss Costa Rica 2014 title were Carolina Rodríguez, 24, and Carolina Arias, 24. MR WORLD PHILIPPINES 2014 AND 2015

The Philippines' representative to Mr World 2014 is John de Lara Spainhour, 26 and 1m85. He is Filipino-American (mother is Filipina and father is American) and served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a snipeshooter in Iraq for five years. After completing his service in 2011, he moved to Manila. He is a highly quoted model, having won the Century Tuna Superbods 2012 model contest. Also, he is reported to have won the "cougar" affections of TV personality Kris Aquino.

"John Spainhour is HOT," Kris Aquino said on the April 24 episode of Aquino and Abunda Tonight.  He's so hot, he's now on the bus with her as they head to Sand Box in Porac. For work, of course. (Source: Coconuts Manila)

At the same time CQ Global Quest, the franchise holder for Mr World Philippines, announced John as Mr World Philippines 2014, they announced Sam Adjani, 23 and 1m90, as Mr World Philippines 2015. Sam, with Filipino, Iranian, and Japanese heritage, is a ramp and commercial model. 

Congrats to both John and Sam!

Spainhour, who specialized in marksmanship and close-quarters combat during his stint in the military, considers his background as an advantage in Mister World.

"My prior job required a lot of discipline, a lot of hard work, a lot of dedication," he said. "Of course, if you apply that to anything in life, it's going to benefit you greatly... It actually tested me. Since this competition is going to be military-themed, I hear, it should help give me an advantage." (Source: ABS-CBN)

MISTER SLOVENIA 2014

The new Mister Slovenia 2014 is Mitja Nadižar, 19 and 1m88. He won the title tonight, at the climax of a gala event at the Cirkus nightclub in Ljubljana. Mitja beating off 9 other men for the title and right to represent Slovenia at the next Mister International contest. Winning special awards were Nejc Zidar (Mister Fashion Days) and Domen Mihelič (Cosmo Mister). The remaining contestants were Aljoša Kuzmanovski, Bojan Radusinović, Matic Pogorelec, Jakob Horvat, Dmitrij Halužan, Goran Krajcar, and Klemen Zagorščak.

The new Mister Venezuela 2014, Jesús Casanova, has a gold medal in swimming - the 100 meters to be exact - which the drop-dead gorgeous athelete won at the Juegos Bolivarianos last year. His (very sexy) nickname is "Tritón de Sabaneta." (And, yes, we can only imagine how glorious his triton is!). He is a sprint freestyler and butterflier and a veteran of the Venezuelan international swimming squad. 

Jesús, 25 and 1m90, won the title on Saturday night, during a televised gala. Runners-up for the Mister Venezuela 2014 title were Francisco Guerrero and Jesús Alvarado. Rounding out the top five were Salvador Lugo and Jonathan Negrón. A total of 12 men competed for this year's title.
