The other day in his office, Dean Harris found himself infinitely bored. BS Security Officer and Bodyguard Boris was nowhere to be found, and Mister Lebanon 2013's visit (and interview for BS' new fitness coach) was not due for another month. Even the news that Miss Universe 2012 was dating Nick Jonas could not relieve his boredom. But...when he turned on his new flat panel, hi-def TV, and tuned it to Cine Estelar, Dean Harris said bye-bye to boredom and hello to the impatient heart of Miss Universe 1953! Really and truly, just between us, it is only the old queens (and Boris) that can make Dean Harris happy. Meanwhile, we digress...
Back to the point. Showing on Cine Estelar that day was the 1960 Mexican film "Impacienca del Corazon," starring Christiane Martel (who had a successful film career in Mexico after she became Miss Universe 1953). The film is loosely based on the novel "Ungeduld des Herzens" by Austrian Stefan Zweig. True to Mexican fashion, the film is quite melodramatic and telenovela-esque. Below is the plot of the movie (not the book!):
Handsome, young Captain Ramirez meets a beautiful girl named Annette who invites him to her uncle's house, where he meets another beautiful girl, Carmen, Annette's cousin, who cannot walk. After a brief misunderstanding, a strong friendship is established among the the three, and the handsome young Captain Ramirez visits the two beautiful young women often. During these visits, he and beautiful Annette fall in love. Beautiful Carmen falls in love in the handsome young Captain Ramirez, too. Although he does not love the beautiful Carmen, the handsome young Captain Ramirez does have a strong affection for her, which triggers a series of events that will determine the course of the lives of all three. Oh, tune into Cine Estelar this Saturday (31-Aug), and catch Christiane in the 1958 film "Estampida."
