One year ago today. 31-mayıs-2013. Gezi Park. Istanbul. Turkey. Today marks the one-year anniversary of the day the social conscience of Turkey awoke against its corrupt,  anti-democratic, anti social media, anti free press, completely out-of-touch, and even incompetent President. Keep fighting the good fight, all you Çapulcu out there - in Turkey and all other parts of the Universe where there is injustice.

Both Miss Universe Turkey 2012 Çağıl Özge Özkul and Miss Universe Turkey 2014 Dilan Çiçek Deniz commemorated #31mayıs2013 on their Instagram accounts. And of course, our political science students will recall that Çağıl went from crowning her successor to protesting her government within the span of 24 hours! She will forever be our most beloved "Miss Çapulcu."
