No, there are no U.S. Senate resolutions, since the U.S. government has been shut down by the radical, right-wing Tea Party faction of the Republican party. However, and in fact more importantly, there is a Philippine Senate resolution!
Sun Star, 03-Oct-2013: AFTER the House of Representatives, it is the turn of the Senate to congratulate actress Megan Young for making history as the first Filipina to win the prestigious Miss World crown.
In filing Senate Resolution 274, Senator Grace Poe also noted Young’s accomplishments prior to her coronation last September 28. Young won the Top Model challenge, placed fourth in multimedia category and finished fifth in the beach fashion event.
She said Young is a symbol of peace “in these trying times, bringing glory to the nation that needs understanding.”
Young won in light of the military offensive against members of Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) in Zamboanga City and accusations of misuse of taxpayers’ money by some lawmakers.
“Resolved, as it is hereby resolved, by the Philippine Senate, to congratulate the Philippines’ pride Megan Lynne Young…as she pledges to be the ‘best Miss World ever’ who ‘treasures the core value of humanity’ in understanding and ultimately helping people,” the resolution stated.
The resolution may be passed at the resumption of session on October 14. Young is expected to return to the country from London, the headquarters of the Miss World Organization, next week.
Members of the House independent bloc earlier filed a resolution commending Young, who bested 126 candidates in the pageant’s 63rd edition held in holiday destination Bali, Indonesia.(Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
