Over the weekend, the Southern African nation of Botswana, home to a Miss Universe and a Miss World first runner-up saw the staging of two pageants - Miss Global Botswana 2013 and Miss Universe Botswana 2013. Guess which one was the disaster? Here's the scoop:
The Monitor, 09-Sep-2013: The word disaster would be an understatement to describe the Miss Universe Botswana pageant that took place on Saturday night at Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC).

The event that was scheduled to start at 7pm fell short of time and only started at around 11pm when the judges arrived and took their seats.Apart from not meeting the time, nothing was in order. The buffet that was promised as advertised was nowhere in sight. Patrons were rather given a raw deal.Instead of getting their serving of the promised buffet, they were served some snacks on tissues much to their disappointment.

Other services that were promised such as limousine rides to the show entry and red carpet photography among others were not delivered as well. The standard ticket price was P500 while for VIP seating tickets went for P900. As if the shortfalls were not enough, there were dead moments onstage with no background music to serve as entertainment.
The Master of Ceremony for the night, Brian Dioka and his co-host former Miss Universe Larona Kgabo did their best to keep the night on a high.Despite the disappointing hitches the 12 contestants that took part were stunning.Nothing could be deducted from their looks and efforts to look their best on stage. The evening gowns were top notch. The proceeding of the evening eventually led to the crowning of Tsaone Macheng as the Miss Universe Botswana 2013.
The young woman exuded confidence on stage when posed with questions from the judges. She won the hearts of those present when she gracefully answered on what aspect of Botswana she would use to sell the country should she be crowned the queen.Macheng's runners up are Benah Sekgabo who emerged the first princess and Boitumelo Kanedi who clinched the second princess spot.
Despite the disaster behind the scenes and in the audience, the 12 finalists proved to be No. 1 Ladies!
On the other hand, Miss Global Botswana 2013 apparently went off without a hitch, seeing Kumbilani Emang, 21 and a university student, capture the title.
